In the 12th century, Gothic architecture was developed. It used pointed arches instead of rounded arches, rib vaults, and flying buttresses. With the rib vaults and the buttresses, walls could be thinner and walls could be bigger. This made the inside much more pleasant and they could focus light on important parts, such as the choir. They also could make much taller buildings because of this.
